3.4.2 SIP and Web password
3.4.2 SIP and Web password
The platform supports two types of password:
- SIP password – used only for SIP communication
- Access password – used for logging in to the softphones and VUP
You can decide whether both types should be used by ticking the Use web passwords checkbox in the VSM>Settings>General menu. If this checkbox is off the system will use the SIP passwords only.
The advantage of using a separate password for access to applications is security as the users will not know the SIP passwords which are sent from the EMCD to the dialer over an encrypted channel.
When a user enters username and access password during the logging in in the softphone the EMCD carries the authentication procedure and if successful sends the SIP login and SIP password back in response. The SIP credentials are then stored locally in the application.
