Welcome to the next VoipSwitch tutorial. This time the guide will walk you through the process of adding a new gateway in Voipswitch VSM4 portal.

To get started, please visit your VSM4 portal and log in.

1. Introduction

From configuring general settings to selecting codecs and permissions, each step is detailed to ensure a seamless process in setting up a new gateway effectively.

Introduction

2. Click "Gateways"

To navigate to the GATEWAYS section, start by clicking on CALLS ROUTING in the menu, and then select GATEWAYS.

Click 'Gateways'

3. Click "Add"

To start the process of adding a new gateway, click the Add button at the top of the page.

Click 'Add'

4. Click "General"

When the dialog appears, you will begin on the GENERAL tab.

Click 'General'

5. Click "Name"

Click on the NAME field and enter the proper data.

Click 'Name'

6. Fill "Name"

This is simply a label for the termination gateway.

Fill 'Name'

7. Click "IP number"

Next, please provide the IP address of the remote termination gateway.

Click 'IP number'

8. Fill "IP number"

Please note that you can use a domain name in place of an IP address.

Fill 'IP number'

9. Click "Port"

The next field specifies the port of the remote gateway to which calls are directed.

Click 'Port'

10. Fill "Port"

You can either specify a port number or simply leave the default value, which is 50 60 for SIP.

Fill 'Port'

11. Click "Protocol"

After that, you can select the protocol.

Click 'Protocol'

12. Choose "Protocol"

You have the option to select either UDP or TCP as your protocol. Please keep in mind that if you decide to switch protocols, you will need to manually update the port accordingly.

Choose 'Protocol'

13. Toggle "Ping"

Now, let’s take a closer look at the Ping field. Although this field is optional, keeping it enabled—highlighted in green—enables you to set the interval for checking the gateway’s status. By doing so, the switch will send SIP OPTIONS at the defined intervals, as indicated by the number of seconds you enter in this field. This functionality ensures that you can effectively monitor the gateway's operational status.

Toggle 'Ping'

14. Fill "Ping"

Conversely, if you choose to disable this feature—perhaps because you do not wish to monitor the gateway or because the gateway does not support SIP OPTIONS—the operational status will default to UP. This means the gateway will be considered active regardless of its actual state.

Fill 'Ping'

15. Fill "User name" and "User password"

In the following row, the fields for Username and Password must be filled out or left blank based on the specific requirements of the carrier.

Fill 'User name' and 'User password'

16. Toggle "Send Remote-Party-ID"

Next, you can choose whether to enable the sending of SIP Remote-Party-ID headers, which is indicated in green. Please be aware that this option is necessary for certain carriers.

Toggle 'Send Remote-Party-ID'

17. Click "Calls limit"

The final option in this row is the Calls Limit

Click 'Calls limit'

18. Fill "Calls limit"

You can specify the maximum number of simultaneous calls that Voipswitch is permitted to send to this termination gateway. Please be aware that setting this value to 0 indicates that there are no limits on the number of calls.

Fill 'Calls limit'

19. Toggle "Calculate costs"

Now, let’s proceed to the row below. You can activate the cost calculation feature effortlessly by toggling the switch to the green position.

Toggle 'Calculate costs'

20. Choose "Tariff"

Once enabled, please select the appropriate tariff from the dropdown menu next to it. This tariff will determine the costs associated with connections after each call completed through this gateway. This approach facilitates cost calculations, enabling you to compare bills received from carriers and assess the profitability of calls made by clients.

Choose 'Tariff'

21. Toggle "Use intra/interstate tariffs

For US-based services, there's a specific option that pertains to interstate and intrastate calling. The applicable tariff will depend on the combination of the Caller Line Identification (CLI) and the dialed number. To enable this feature, simply toggle the switch to the green position.

22. Choose "Interstate" and "Intrastate" tariffs

Then choose the appropriate Interstate and Intrastate tariffs. The system determines whether a call is classified as intrastate or interstate, which in turn decides the applicable tariff, through the following steps: 1. The client initiates a call to a domestic US phone number. 2. Voipswitch verifies whether there is a location that matches the prefix of the dialed number. 3. If a location match is found, the system then checks if the Calling Line Identification (CLI) aligns with this location. - If both the CLI and dialed number correspond to the same location, the call is classified as intrastate, and the appropriate tariff is applied. - Conversely, if there is no matching location, the Interstate Tariff will be utilized.

Choose 'Interstate' and 'Intrastate' tariffs

23. Fill "Dialed number prefix" and "Tariff prefix"

In the final row, you have the ability to adjust the prefixes.

Fill 'Dialed number prefix' and 'Tariff prefix'
