3.9.1 Number normalization
3.9.1 Number normalization
The phone numbers are normalized according to the following rules, similarly to the rules applied by the GSM operators:
- international calling:
- Prefix 00 or + at the beginning of a number is stripped e.g. +442085676789 will become 442085676789
- Prefix 011 at the beginning of a number is stripped. This prefix is used in USA
- Single prefix 0 (not double 0 which is in the first rule) is replaced by the country code associated with the user. For example number 0600345698 from Contacts of a user with country code 48 Poland will be changed to 48600345698 and in this form sent to the EMCD
- local calling
- Numbers stored in the local phone Contacts without any of the prefixes mentioned above are treated as local numbers. Before they are sent to the EMCD the softphone adds the user’s country code in front, e.g. number stored as 600456789 will be changed to 48600456789 where 48 is the Poland country code – this is of course for the user who registered with Poland phone number.
The phone numbers used during a registration are also stored in E164 format which allows for easier matching them with the Contacts numbers.
